Experience has proven, however, that the key precursor is pre-analytic quality control. Scanned images must meet
predetermined diagnostic criteria to successfully avoid scanning rework and its associated costs.
This talk will address key pre-imaging factors related to tissue fixation, grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, coverslipping and barcoding. In addition, software solutions are now emerging that will analyze and possibly even correct defects in images so unacceptable ones never reach pathologists’ screens.
