"Organizational Preparedness for the Use of Large Language Models in Anatomic Pathology: Fundamental Concepts, Clinical Use Cases, and Future Challenges"

Large Language Models (LLMs) represent a revolutionary category of artificial intelligence (AI) systems that, unlike prior AI models, distinguish themselves through their vast scale and the ability to learn from a wide array of data sources. With the rise of ChatGPT, Bard, and other LLMs over the past year, their potential use in healthcare and pathology/laboratory medicine, has been both celebrated and condemned. In this session, we aim to provide a thorough understanding of what LLMs are, the considerations that arise when one looks to employ LLMs in healthcare/laboratory settings, early appropriate use cases for LLMs in anatomic pathology, and finally, how to evaluate the advantages, limitations, and overall challenges of using these models for pathology.
