Job Name: Open Rank Faculty Pathology Informaticist
Description:  The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) seeks candidates for a clinical track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (rank/tenure commensurate with experience) in Clinical Informatics.

The Department of Pathology at UIC is one of the few departments in the U.S. to have a Division of Informatics within our department. Our department provides testing in all major disciplines including microbiology, chemistry, hematology, transfusion medicine, tissue typing/transplant, cytogenetics and molecular pathology including next generation sequencing along with an active surgical pathology service. The department’s expertise is shared not only with the UI Health Hospital and Clinics but with physicians and other medical facilities through the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System Reference Laboratory System. The Division of Pathology Informatics guides the maintenance, evaluation, and enhancement of the laboratory information and ancillary systems used throughout the department and hospital. The Division works closely with the hospital Information Systems teams, other physician and clinical informaticians in the hospital, and sponsors an ACGME-accredited Clinical Informatics (CI) fellowship program – one of the first ones created in the country.

The Pathology Informaticist faculty position will expand and strengthen the informatics program and establish/extend a computational pathology focus. The incumbent will assist in providing direction and oversight for the Department’s programs in laboratory information systems (Epic/Beaker), digital/enterprise imaging and telepathology, laboratory analytics, clinical decision support, integrated diagnostics (pathology, radiology, genomic, etc.), and artificial intelligence. In addition, the incumbent will help lead the active learning curriculum for residents, graduate students, and clinical informatics fellows within our ACGME accredited programs.

Duties:  The position requires close interaction with the University and Hospital Information Services teams, Clinical Informatics team members, and AP/CP faculty and staff.

The position will have protected time to develop an investigational focus, with a goal of developing collaborative or independent research, especially in the areas of machine learning and digital imaging.

Qualifications:  The incumbent will be expected to maintain an active clinical practice and credentialing in an area of anatomic and/or clinical pathology service. Current medical license, board certification in AP/CP or AP is required.

Successful completion of a fellowship or equivalent training and/or experience in clinical or pathology informatics is strongly preferred. Special consideration will be given to those with demonstrated experience in teaching, development of an informatics curriculum, and machine learning expertise/interest. Academic title and rank will be commensurate to experience.

Minimum qualifications include MD, DO, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree with appropriate Illinois state license.
