What is the PI Summit?

The 2025 Pathology Informatics Summit continues its tradition of assembling the top thought leaders in clinical laboratory and anatomic pathology informatics. The Pathology Informatics Conference topics will include exciting and innovative informatics sessions in the following fields: Laboratory Medicine, Anatomic Pathology, Digital Imaging and Machine Vision, Molecular/Genomics, Operations, Education, AI/Machine Learning, Regulatory Issues, and many more!

Without question, PI Summit 2025 will be a singularly outstanding event and should be on the ”must-attend” list for anyone interested in staying current in this very fast-paced and important sub-specialty of pathology.

2025 Target Audience
Physicians, Physician Assistants, Administrators, House Officers, Medical Students, Technicians, Other Healthcare Professionals

2025 Conference Objectives

• Define the rapidly evolving field of Digital Pathology and showcase associated opportunities for an expedited adoption of new workflow models leveraging machine learning, artificial intelligence, and hardware solutions
• Discuss tenets of business analytics, machine learning and computational pathology
• Identify the various software and hardware products available in the clinical laboratory and pathology market by interacting with many exhibitors
• Recognize the requirements to deploy informatics solutions in the clinical diagnostic laboratory
• Present new research in pathology informatics based on submitted competitive scientific abstracts
• Provide a forum for basic pathology informatics instruction for house officers and fellows in pathology training programs.
• Provide updated best practices in the rapidly evolving area of digital pathology primary diagnosis

After completing this activity, participants will be able to 1) Identify the key trends in data sciences, as applied to digital pathology and Lab Medicine 2) create new opportunities for data management and collaboration within the healthcare enterprise 3) demonstrate and grow their clinical informatics skills 4) initiate machine learning and AI tool development in their department or division 5) identify and develop mentoring opportunities in informatics, and 6) identify and utilize new research collaborations and stimulate new research opportunities

Why attend PI Summit?

“As the Chair of a leading Pathology Department in the AI/Digital pathology innovation space, I see the annual Pathology Informatics Summit Meeting as one of the premier opportunities for identifying new and critically important technologies. The timely deployment of these technologies within our numerous departmental computational pathology initiatives is central to advancing our research and educational programs. The Pathology Informatics Summit brings together both thought leaders and departmental section heads, who hold direct purchasing authority and are eager to deploy solutions. New vendors in the Pathology AI and Digital Imaging space would be well-served by exhibiting at this meeting.” - John Tomaszewski, MD, MASCPChair, Department of Pathology, University of Buffalo

“Not only do I come for the presentations, but I also come for the conversations. I have always found the exhibitor area to be extremely valuable at the APIII/Pathology Informatics Summit. I look forward to talking to the vendors, learning about new technological advancements and innovation, and bringing that information back to my institution.” - Dave McClintock, MDChair, Division of Computational Pathology and Artificial Intelligence, Mayo Clinic

Why API?

The organizing society for this meeting, the Association for Pathology Informatics (API), is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to advance pathology informatics. Pathology Informatics has been increasing in importance as the demand for, and development of, information systems and technology continue to address healthcare industry needs. Beginning with the collection, processing, and analysis of patient specimens, the field of pathology, as a whole, generates significant amounts of data that require careful interpretation and reliable distribution to fulfill the core mission of supporting patient care.

API and its meetings are regarded as incubators for new ideas and technological applications. Not only does API host meetings that showcase advanced research, it also fosters a community for thought-leaders and stake-holders, both practitioners and vendors, in pathology informatics to explore and challenge the boundaries of what is available in digital pathology, IT systems, and artificial intelligence for existing hospital and laboratory institutions. API appreciates that progress is made through close partnerships. API is also constituted by individual volunteers, many of whom are leading Pathologists and researchers uniquely positioned to identify, implement, and promote cutting-edge projects. Many of our volunteers, speakers, and attendees are decision-makers sitting ”in the room” when budgets are written, proposals are reviewed, and decisions are made.
